Seattle to Tahoe and Back - Part Six
We found out during our trip that Reno's " Street Vibrations" rally was taking place that very weekend. As we were headed toward home anyway, we decided to stop and check it out. Got there Friday at noon, a little early but it was already busy, 6-8 blocks of the street blocked off, vendors lining both sides.
Saw this otherwise ordinary looking Harley parked among the hundreds of other clones. Clean setup for the supercharger, but the intake casting looks very restrictive to me.
A rare bike?, Guzzi's Quota. I've never even seen one. Looks like it'd give a GS some trouble.
This guy must own stock in a paint company...
Always thought green bikes were supposedly unlucky. Other than the color, just your typical cookie cutter chopper.
This booth had the most people gathered around it, causing a slowdown in the pedestrian traffic. I don't know why, all they were selling was T-shirts....
Tucked away among the trinket vendors hawking sunglasses, leather junk, and Harley accesories was this.... thing. It stopped me in my tracks.
Yep, a V4. Not your typical side by side job running a jackshaft, this guy engineered a custom crankcase housing a true single crank V4. I asked about crankpin spacing, he said it was a 360 so he could get away with using a single cam. The shortblock seen below displaces 3500 cc's, and is set up with low comp. pistons in anticipation of a twin turbo system. Dude says he's expecting 400hp. The one in the orange bike makes 196. Nice. Now that's a paint shaker motor.
Don't really know why I took this shot... I don't like these things. It was long and low, though. Nice lines.
Had to take a shot of Reno's "911" force. They don't look too happy, though. Oh well, think if I'd actually asked for their autographs....
By mid afternoon, we'd had enough. We rolled out of town, arms getting sore from waving at all the incoming bikers. It must have been a good weekend, if Friday was any indication.
Homeward bound....
