The tiny winding road you see way down there along the lakeshore is a small portion of one of my favourite motorcycle roads....Highway 20, AKA the North Cascades Highway.

The pic, incidentally, was take by me near the summit of Sourdough mountain, on an attempt to reach the top, but a persistent snowcap foiled our forward progress. We turned back after a greuling day's climb and an uncomfortable night on the mountain. (Click the pic for fullsize splendor)

Why am I posting this now??. Well, they close this highway in the winter, as avalanches and huge snowfalls completely bury the upper areas. The USDOT has just opened the pass this spring. As of May 1 it's open!!! Click the link to see some interesting pics and read the history of Washington's Northernmost pass, and stay tuned for pics of my first ride across...coming soon.
