Pics from the walk, described a post or two down...
Click on them for the big version.
More mossy branches, reaching out toward the river.
Fallen trees are not wasted by nature, they become fertile beds of nutrients as they rot away. Seeds find a home here, and grow quickly. The new tree reaches for the ground as it grows and uses up it's host, creating an intricate net of roots. It's a neat thing to see, especially when the fallen log is completely gone, as the airy root system makes it look like the tree could get up and walk around, Entlike, at any minute.
The trail can be seen snaking down under this huge tree in the extreme low left. My wife saw this pic, stating, " It looks like the tree's alive and reaching out." In a way, it is.
This bridge crosses a chasm, just above the big set of falls. Hard to capture scale here, but the people and the foreground tree on the right give a few clues. It's BIG.
Near the end of the trail, the river spreads out, slows down, and treats you to scenes like this...
Go see it, people. Less than 1 hour drive from Seattle, easy to find. Cleanses the funk of the city off in a very short time.
