Cognac is identified by its label, with names which are easily recognizable by the consumer, such as :
V.S. (Very Special) or *** (three star) for Cognacs in which the youngest eau-de-vie is at least two years old.
V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pale), Réserve... for Cognacs in which the youngest eau-de-vie is at least four years old.
Napoléon, X.O, or Hors d'âge... for Cognacs in which the youngest eau-de-vie is at least six years old.
