Camping Getaway. We realized we hadn't been away from home here in Seattle for a long time, and decided to make the most of the rarity that is time off together. We went camping. On the Oregon Coast. Here's the pics....
Just after crossing the Columbia River.
Got to our campsite, Smack in the middle of old growth seaside rainforest. Huge trees, the tent sites were raised off the ground level by a foot or so of a sandy raised bed to keep some of the wet out, not that it worked. Magnificent, ancient trees everywhere...
Surfers were trying, but not really making any progress here...So, the campsite is a bit off the road, as an alternative to humping your gear in on your back, wheelbarrows are provided. Nice. The graininess is due to the POURING RAIN in this shot. We awoke to a downpour in the morning, debated staying despite being wet/damp/cold/uncomfortable. Discretion won. We packed it up.
Took a detour to see a lighthouse/park. Apparently you can stay here. A windswept, desolate spit of land sticking out in the Pacific.
The lighthouse. $2.50 to climb the stairs. Signs say a crew of three stayed here, growing their own food and feeding the light it's 170 gallons of fuel a month to stay lit...
