"Driver texting with BlackBerry causes six car pileup

A man tapping messages on his BlackBerry phone caused a six car pileup on Interstate 5 on Tuesday morning. The Mercer Island, Washington resident was driving in the express lanes in his minivan when he rear-ended a car. That crash careened into four other vehicles which included a passenger bus.

A mother and son were in the rear-ended car and went to the hospital, but thankfully no one else was seriously injured in the accident.

Apparently the driver didn't notice that traffic had come to a stop because he was using his BlackBerry and admitted that fact to state troopers. The driver was cited for following to closely."

Don't text and drive. Come on... everybody wake up. Every day I have to make an evasive maneuver on my motorcycle to avoid being hit. 4 out of the 5 days, the errant driver has been on a phone, oblivious. This is becoming like driving with drunks on new years all year long, and the fines/punishments/severity is tragically, almost comically non-existant.

P.S. - For those who cannot count, the pic above is NOT from the accident scene.
