Above, meet the speed camera, or photo radar as they're commonly called here.

Endemic in the UK., they are almost universally hated but bring in so much revenue that they're multiplying astronomically.

Here's the thing....traffic collisions, both minor and major are higher than ever.

The problem?? Only 1 in 5 accidents involve speeding. Speed in and of itself doesn't kill people....stupidity/inattention/recklessness/drugs and alcohol kills people. Ironically, because of the efficacy of these speed cameras, the actual police force out on the highway at any one time has been cut by half.

Less police on the road, tons of 40-80 thousand dollar cameras lining the roads, accidents continuing to go up. Not making much sense, is it? Oh wait, it's all controlled by the local politicians/council members. And, it makes a ton of money. Ah Ha!!

Think it's a British problem? Right now, yes, it is. But remember, cameras make tons of money. Think American politicians are less money-hungry? It's coming this way.
